Netherlands (2016 – Now)

I came to the Netherlands in the year 2016 to pursue my PhD. From the very first moment, I fell in love with its people's openness, the futuristic architecture, and the technological solutions for an improved city lifestyle.

Trails

I have never explored hiking in the Netherlands but have taken short walks in multiple places around the country.

Food

At least I never heard of Dutch restaurants in my life, and they don't exist in the Netherlands either. But in most large cities it is easy to find decent International food.

Transportation

Public transportation is expensive and extensive. You can go almost everywhere with it. With just a single electronic card you can take both public transport and rent bikes.

People

Dutch can be direct in their conversation, but I suggest not taking it to your heart. They are also much friendlier than people in other Germanic countries. The best part is they all speak English. Sometimes they can be a bit of pain with their rules. But as long as you are persistent and offer them alternatives, they are willing to trade for an amicable solution. And this is something that I appreciate in the Dutch people.

Special Experiences

Kayaking in autumn, flying a drone over pretty towns, cycling in the countryside, buying and trying tasty cheese in the farmers market, and waking up to gorgeous sunrises in autumn and winter.
